R22: RM 120 (1.0 HP), RM 150 (1.5–2.0 HP), RM 180 (2.5–3.0 HP). R410A: RM 150 (1.0 HP), RM 180 (1.5–2.0 HP), RM 200 (2.5–3.0 HP). R32: RM 180 (1.0 HP), RM 200 (1.5–2.0 HP), RM 220 (2.5–3.0 HP). These prices are for a standard top-up from low to full. If the system is completely empty (e.g., after a major leak), the price may be higher because more refrigerant is needed — we will confirm before adding. Leak inspection included at every price level.

The key differentiator: if your unit is CLEAN (filters washed, basic service done recently) but still has these symptoms, it is almost certainly low on refrigerant: (1) Air from the unit is cool but not cold — temperature at the outlet is only 2–4°C cooler than room air, not the expected 8–12°C. (2) The outdoor compressor runs continuously but the room never reaches set temperature. (3) Ice or frost visible on the copper pipes near the outdoor unit or on the indoor coil. R22 (Freon/HCFC-22): Old refrigerant phased out in new units from 2010. Still found in units 10–15+ years old. Being phased out globally — becoming more expensive and harder to source. R410A (HFC): Replaced R22, used in most units manufactured 2010–2018. Higher pressure than R22 — requires thicker copper pipe. Not eco-friendly but still widely available. R32 (HFC-32): The current standard from ~2019 onwards. Lower global warming potential than R410A, better energy efficiency, requires less refrigerant charge. Most new Daikin, Panasonic, and Mitsubishi units use R32. CRITICAL: Never mix gases. Check the nameplate on your outdoor unit to confirm. Adding the wrong gas can destroy the compressor.

Correct — refrigerant does not get ‘consumed’. It circulates in a sealed closed loop. If the level is low, there is a leak somewhere. Common leak points: (1) Flare connections at indoor and outdoor units — these are the most common, usually fixable by re-flaring or tightening. (2) Evaporator or condenser coil — micro-leaks from corrosion, especially in units 8+ years old near the coast (Klang, Port Klang). (3) Service valve Schrader cores — simple fix, often overlooked. If your unit needs gas every 6–12 months, the leak needs to be found and repaired. A top-up without fixing the leak is a temporary patch. We will honestly tell you whether the leak is minor (manageable with annual top-up) or major (repair or replace decision needed).

If the unit is still blowing cool (not cold) air with no ice: yes, you can use it, but it is running inefficiently and your electricity bill is higher than normal for the cooling you are getting. If ice is forming on the indoor coil or copper pipe: turn the unit OFF immediately and run only the fan to defrost it. Running with ice can damage the compressor (liquid refrigerant slugging) — that turns a RM 120 top-up into a RM 800+ compressor replacement. No. Refrigerant handling in Malaysia requires certified technicians under the Environmental Quality (Refrigerant Management) Regulations. You need: (a) a manifold gauge set, (b) the correct refrigerant cylinder, (c) a weighing scale, (d) training to read pressures correctly against ambient temperature charts, and (e) an electronic leak detector for safety. Overfilling by even 10–15% can cause liquid slugging that destroys the compressor. Using the wrong refrigerant type can cause a chemical reaction that corrodes the system internally. This is not a DIY job — at RM 120–180 including professional leak check, it is also not expensive.
