Gree is the world's largest aircond manufacturer by volume (since 2005) and is widely sold in Malaysia through OEM partnerships with several other brands. The current R32 inverter line is reliable for residential use, and the build quality has improved significantly since 2018. Gree compressors (Gree-made) are now widely used across many brands' entry-level models, which means parts availability in Malaysia is good. The main service consideration is that Gree's PCB design has changed several times since 2017, so we maintain a database of the PCB-to-model mapping for every Gree series we service.

All current Gree residential wall splits sold in Malaysia from 2020 onwards use R32 refrigerant. Older Gree units used R22 (pre-2015) and R410A (2015–2019). For commercial Gree units (Gree Multi+ systems, Flexx cassette), R32 is standard from 2021 onwards. KL Renovator carries all three refrigerants and we confirm the gas type from the nameplate before any work — we never mix refrigerants.

Gree aircond units in Malaysia with regular servicing typically last 10–14 years, similar to other mid-range brands. The lifespan is mainly limited by the outdoor unit's exposure to humidity and heat — for landed houses where the outdoor unit is in direct afternoon sun, we recommend 6-monthly chemical wash to extend compressor life. For condo installations where the outdoor is in a covered service yard, 12-monthly intervals are fine.

On older Gree R22 units (pre-2015), the most common issue is drain pipe blockage due to algae buildup in the drain pan — a chemical wash that includes drain pan removal fixes this. On newer Gree R32 inverter units, we see occasional indoor fan motor noise after 5–7 years — typically a bearing replacement (RM 90–150 part) rather than full motor replacement. For Gree Multi+ multi-split systems, the most common service call is EEV (electronic expansion valve) replacement on individual indoor units (RM 200–320 per EEV).

A standard Gree wall-mounted chemical wash takes 45-60 minutes. Ceiling cassette units or heavily neglected systems may require up to 90 minutes for a thorough deep clean.
