MEPS is Malaysia's Minimum Energy Performance Standards scheme, administered by the Energy Commission. Air conditioners sold here carry a star label β more stars means less electricity for the same cooling. The label is a comparison tool between models of the same capacity; it says nothing about how your unit performs once the coil is dirty or the room is oversized.
Read the star label together with the annual kWh figure printed on it β that number is what turns into ringgit on your TNB bill.
An inverter aircond varies compressor speed instead of switching it fully on and off. Once the room reaches the set temperature the compressor slows to a trickle rather than stopping, which holds the temperature steadier and avoids the heavy current spike of every restart. That is where the electricity saving comes from β it is a control difference, not a stronger cooling capacity.
Inverter savings only show up on units that run for hours at a time. A living-room unit switched on for 45 minutes will not pay back the price difference.
Dry mode runs the compressor in short low-fan cycles so the coil keeps condensing moisture without over-chilling the room.
