Hitachi's current residential line in Malaysia is all R32 inverter (Ecosmart, Performance, iSense and the new X-Series). Hitachi's inverter control is notable for its smooth low-frequency operation, which is why Hitachi units are often preferred for bedrooms. The main service difference for Hitachi inverter units is the indoor PCB's sensor network — Hitachi uses 3 separate thermistors (room, coil, outdoor) and a faulty reading from any of them can trigger weird behaviour. KL Renovator tests all 3 thermistors during every Hitachi service visit as standard practice.
A persistently blinking 'Clean' lamp on Hitachi Frost Wash after the self-clean cycle usually means the condensate drain pump is partially blocked or the frost-cycle thermistor has failed. We check the thermistor first (a 10kΩ reading at 25°C is normal) and then inspect the drain pump for blockage. In most cases it's a thermistor issue, and replacement is RM 50–80 with a 15-minute service.
A dot-only display on Hitachi Ecosmart with no response to remote is a standby memory issue. Unplug the unit for 60 seconds, plug back in and test. If still showing a dot only, the EEPROM on the indoor PCB may have lost calibration. We can re-flash the EEPROM on-site in 90% of cases without board replacement, saving the customer RM 250–400 in PCB cost.
A single 'clunk' on start/stop of Hitachi Performance Series is normal — it's the 4-way valve resetting. But if you hear a 'clunk-clunk' repeated several times on start-up, the compressor mounting springs have likely weakened. We replace the compressor springs (RM 40–60 in parts) during the same chemical wash visit, which usually eliminates the noise.

Yes — KL Renovator services all Hitachi Frost Wash models. Even self-cleaning units need professional chemical wash every 12–18 months for deep coil and blower cleaning.
The Frost Wash feature does help reduce surface dust and ice on the evaporator coil between professional services, but it does not replace a full chemical wash. After 12–18 months of running, even Frost Wash units build up deep biofilm in the blower wheel and drain pan that only manual disassembly cleaning can reach. We recommend pairing Frost Wash with a yearly chemical wash for best results — and skipping the chemical wash on Frost Wash units is the most common reason for persistent musty smells.
Ecosmart is Hitachi's standard residential inverter line (R32, 5-star energy rating), suitable for most bedrooms and small living rooms. Performance Series is the higher-tier line with a wider evaporator, faster cooling and lower noise. Both are inverter R32 and use the same chemical wash process.
