Carrier sells both inverter and non-inverter models in Malaysia. The Xpression residential series launched around 2018 as Carrier's main inverter range (R32), while the older 38M/42Q series still in many landed houses and shophouses are non-inverter R22 or R410A units. Carrier inverter units use a 5mm copper stub for service ports that requires the correct torque wrench during connection — over-tightening cracks the valve and causes a slow leak that often only shows up 6 months after service. E4 on Carrier Performance Series is a discharge temperature sensor fault, not a refrigerant issue. Check the sensor wiring and connector first; if the sensor resistance is within spec, the PCB input channel may be the problem.
