Midea's R32 inverter range (Breezeless E series, All Easy Pro) has been sold in Malaysia since 2019 and now represents the majority of new Midea installations we service. The older Midea non-inverter models (2014–2018, typically R410A) are still common in older condominiums and are fully serviceable. E1 on Midea units is a high-pressure protection trip, almost always caused by a blocked outdoor coil or a condenser fan that has stopped spinning. Check the outdoor fan blade for foreign objects (leaves, plastic bags) and wash the condenser coil before assuming a refrigerant issue — most E1 cases resolve with a chemical wash plus fan motor cleaning.
On Midea units this is usually the indoor PCB's IR receiver failing, not the remote itself. Test the remote with a phone camera (press any button, see if the IR LED flashes on screen). If the remote is fine, replacing the IR receiver module (RM 50–70 part) on the indoor PCB is the cheapest fix, often cheaper than replacing the whole board.
A high-pitched whine on Midea R32 inverter units at low fan speed is typically the inverter switching frequency coupling with the fan motor windings. Midea has become a popular mid-range choice in Malaysia since 2018, especially in rental units and budget-conscious new builds. The build quality is decent for the price and most Midea parts (PCB, fan motors, sensors) are readily available. The main service consideration is that Midea's R32 inverter PCBs run hotter than premium brands, so a chemical wash every 6 months (not 12) helps extend PCB life in landed houses where the outdoor unit is in direct afternoon sun.
For Midea wall-mounted units in normal home use, we recommend a basic service every 6 months and a chemical wash once a year. For shoplot or office use (8+ hours daily operation), chemical wash every 4–6 months is better. Skipping chemical wash on Midea units for 2+ years is the most common reason we see compressor failures on this brand.
