Is Midea a good aircond brand for Malaysian homes?
Midea has become a popular mid-range choice in Malaysia since 2018, especially in rental units and budget-conscious new builds. The build quality is decent for the price and most Midea parts (PCB, fan motors, sensors) are readily available. The main service consideration is that Midea's R32 inverter PCBs run hotter than premium brands, so a chemical wash every 6 months (not 12) helps extend PCB life in landed houses where the outdoor unit is in direct afternoon sun.
How often should a Midea aircond be serviced?
For Midea wall-mounted units in normal home use, we recommend a basic service every 6 months and a chemical wash once a year. For shoplot or office use (8+ hours daily operation), chemical wash every 4–6 months is better. Skipping chemical wash on Midea units for 2+ years is the most common reason we see compressor failures on this brand.
Can Midea aircond be converted from non-inverter to inverter?
No — inverter and non-inverter Midea units use different indoor unit control boards, different outdoor compressors, and different refrigerant oil. The conversion is not technically or economically viable. If you want inverter efficiency, a full new Midea inverter installation from RM 199 (labour) is the correct path.
