LG's current residential line in Malaysia is all dual inverter R32 (sold since 2017). Older LG units (2013–2016) were single-inverter R410A, and pre-2013 units were non-inverter R22. The dual inverter compressor is LG's main differentiator and our most-serviced compressor type after Daikin and Panasonic. The main service difference for LG dual inverter units is the high-torque permanent magnet motor — we only use LG-spec or Hitachi-spec replacement capacitors because off-brand capacitors often fail within 6 months in LG dual inverter units due to the higher switching frequency.
Repeated clicking on LG dual inverter units with no outdoor startup is usually a failed IPM (intelligent power module) on the outdoor PCB, triggered by compressor lock-up. We test the compressor windings (should be 0.5–2 ohms between any two terminals) and the IPM module. If the compressor is locked but the IPM is good, only the compressor needs replacement. If the IPM is also shorted, both need replacement together (RM 1,400–1,800 total).
CH05 on LG units is a communication error between the indoor PCB and outdoor PCB. The most common cause is a damaged or pinched communication wire from a previous installation, not a PCB failure. We continuity-test each of the 4 communication cores and replace any damaged section. This fixes 85% of CH05 cases without touching any PCB.
On LG wall splits, water dripping past the drain pan onto the floor is almost always a cracked drain pan. LG's drain pans are made of ABS plastic that becomes brittle after 7+ years of UV exposure from the indoor unit's own indicator lights. The pan itself is replaceable (RM 60–90 part + 30 min labour) without removing the indoor unit from the wall.
