Do not treat a dead inverter as “low gas.” A surge does not empty the circuit. Gas work is a separate job after the electrics are safe.
First checks you can do safely
- Confirm other sockets in the room still have power.
- Look at the aircond MCB or isolator — if it is down, lift it once.
- If it drops again, leave it off. Repeated resets cook a half-dead board.
- Photograph any error code or blink pattern. Send it with the error-code guide.

Can a power surge damage an aircond?
Yes. A short over-voltage or a hard restart after a blackout can take out the indoor or outdoor PCB, a capacitor or, in a bad case, the compressor. Inverter boards are more sensitive than older fixed-speed sets.
What should I do after a storm if the aircond is dead?
Leave the isolator off for a few minutes, then restore power once. Do not keep flipping the MCB. If it trips again, stays dark, or shows a communication error, book diagnosis (RM 88, waived with repair).
How much does surge damage cost to repair?

Why did only the inverter unit die and the old non-inverter survive?
Inverter PCBs have more electronics sitting across the incoming supply. A fixed-speed unit has fewer boards to burn. That is a design difference, not a reason to skip servicing the surviving unit.

Those are indoor/outdoor communication codes on Daikin, Mitsubishi and LG. After a flicker they can be a one-off. Reset once. If they return, the comms cable or a board needs diagnosis — not a gas top-up.
Should I unplug the aircond when I go on holiday?
Switching the isolator off is fine for a long trip. For a weekend, leaving it off for days in the wet season can let the drain pan stay wet — run it briefly when you return. Holiday shutdown is not a surge strategy.

What are the two warranties on a new installation?

Inverter aircond — what is the actual saving mechanism?
An inverter aircond varies compressor speed instead of switching it fully on and off. Once the room reaches the set temperature the compressor slows to a trickle rather than stopping, which holds the temperature steadier and avoids the heavy current spike of every restart. That is where the electricity saving comes from — it is a control difference, not a stronger cooling capacity.
Inverter savings only show up on units that run for hours at a time. A living-room unit switched on for 45 minutes will not pay back the price difference.
What is inside the outdoor unit?
The outdoor unit holds the compressor, the condenser coil and the fan that blows heat away from the coil. It can only reject heat if air moves freely through the fins, so a coil packed with dust, a unit boxed into a tight service yard, or a hot wall right behind it all raise running pressure and electricity use.
Leave at least 30 cm of clear air behind the condenser and never enclose it in a sealed cabinet or grille box.
