Aircond Remote & Timer Features Guide
Timer, sleep, dry and swing are already on most KL remotes. How to use them, when a “dead remote” is batteries, and when to book RM 88.

Most split remotes in KL and Selangor already have timer, sleep, dry, swing and a “feel” sensor. Owners use Cool and the down arrow, then book a technician when the unit “will not start” because last week’s timer is still armed. This guide is the feature map — not a fake list of secret factory codes.
The buttons almost every remote already has
| Button / mode | What it does | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Timer on / off | Starts or stops after a delay or at a clock time | Leaving the icon on overnight, then thinking the unit is dead at 7am |
| Sleep | Usually raises the set point through the night | Stacking sleep + timer so the unit never returns to the daytime set point |
| Dry | Runs the coil to pull moisture on humid, milder days | Using it as a mould treatment instead of a Chemical Deep-Clean |
| Swing / air direction | Moves the louvre so air is not a single jet | Pointing the jet at a baby cot or a desk all day |
| Fan only | Moves air without calling the compressor | Expecting the room to get colder |
| Eco / energy | Limits compressor effort on some models | Blaming Eco when the coil is dirty — wash first |
Brand features already listed on this site
- York Follow Me — remote as the room sensor.
- Hisense I Feel / Smart Mode — same idea; do not leave the remote in a parked car.
- Panasonic iAUTO-X / Econavi — published on the Panasonic brand page; a dusty Econavi sensor at the grille can misread the room.
- Hisense ConnectLife — phone pairing on supported models only. Offline in the app does not mean the compressor is dead.
If the indoor unit beeps, the remote worked. Next checks are power, outdoor fan and cooling — see the troubleshooting guide and Aircond Remote Not Working Troubleshooting.
When it is a part, not a setting
Diagnosis RM 88 (waived with repair). Temperature sensor RM 150–250. PCB RM 350–600. We do not invent a “remote replacement menu price” — if the original is lost we discuss a compatible remote on WhatsApp after we see the indoor model sticker.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my aircond remote not working?
Change the batteries first and wipe the indoor IR window. If a phone camera shows the remote LED flashing when you press a button, the remote is sending. If the indoor unit still ignores it, book a diagnosis (RM 88, waived with repair) — the receiver or indoor PCB may have failed.
What does the timer button actually do?
On most split remotes, timer-off stops the unit after a set number of hours; timer-on starts it later. Clear leftover timer icons if the unit will not start — a previous sleep or timer schedule is a common false fault on Mitsubishi remotes we service.
Is sleep mode the same as timer?
No. Sleep usually raises the set temperature slowly through the night so the compressor works less. Timer is a hard on or off at a clock time or after N hours. Using both at once is how people think the unit is “broken” in the morning.
Should I use dry mode in Malaysia?
Dry mode is useful on humid, not-extremely-hot days because it runs the coil to pull moisture. It is not a mould wash. If the unit already smells, book a chemical wash from RM 120.
Does swing mode save electricity?
Swing itself does not cut the TNB bill. It spreads air so you can keep a slightly higher set temperature without a cold spot. Bill reduction still comes from a clean coil and the right HP — see the electricity calculator.
What is Follow Me or I Feel on the remote?
York lists a Follow Me feature and Hisense lists an I Feel sensor: the remote measures temperature where you are sitting, not only at the indoor unit. If the remote is left in the sun or under a cushion, the unit will hunt the wrong temperature.
Can I control my aircond from a phone?
Only if that specific model shipped with Wi-Fi or an add-on module. Hisense ConnectLife is one published example on this site. We do not sell a universal app. A dead Wi-Fi module does not stop cooling.
How much does remote or sensor repair cost?
Diagnosis is RM 88 (waived with repair). Temperature sensor replacement is published at RM 150–250. PCB replacement is RM 350–600 if the indoor board is the fault.
The indoor unit beeps but nothing happens — is that the remote?
A beep means the IR signal arrived. If there is no cooling after that, look at power, outdoor unit, gas or a dirty coil — not a new remote. Use the troubleshooting guide and the service recommendation tool.
Do you fix remotes for every brand?
We diagnose indoor receivers and boards for the 20 brands listed on this website. Universal remotes are a last resort when the original is lost; they will not restore brand-only buttons.
Definitions
Key terms in this guide, explained
Short, plain-language definitions of the terms used above — written by the technicians who do the work, not copied from a manufacturer brochure.
What is dry mode good for in Malaysian humidity?
Dry mode runs the compressor in short low-fan cycles so the coil keeps condensing moisture without over-chilling the room. On a wet Klang Valley evening it can make a 25 °C room feel more comfortable than 22 °C on cool mode, at lower power. It is not a substitute for a dehumidifier in a damp store room, because the unit still stops once the temperature target is met.
Use dry mode on rainy evenings and keep cool mode for the hot afternoon — the switch alone shaves running hours off the compressor.
HP — what is it measuring, and why do quotes ask for it?
HP is the informal Malaysian shorthand for cooling capacity, carried over from compressor horsepower. In practice 1.0 HP ≈ 9,000 BTU/h, 1.5 HP ≈ 12,000 BTU/h, 2.0 HP ≈ 18,000 BTU/h and 2.5 HP ≈ 24,000 BTU/h. Service, chemical wash and installation prices are all quoted against these bands, which is why the technician asks for HP before quoting.
HP is printed on the indoor unit's side label and on the outdoor nameplate — check there rather than guessing from room size.
What is the outdoor condenser unit?
The outdoor unit holds the compressor, the condenser coil and the fan that blows heat away from the coil. It can only reject heat if air moves freely through the fins, so a coil packed with dust, a unit boxed into a tight service yard, or a hot wall right behind it all raise running pressure and electricity use.
Leave at least 30 cm of clear air behind the condenser and never enclose it in a sealed cabinet or grille box.
Side-by-side comparison
Replace vs repair — what should decide it?
Use age, the part that failed and the repair-to-replacement ratio — not how the unit looks.
| What to compare | Repair the existing unit | Replace with a new unit |
|---|---|---|
| Unit age | Under 7 years | Over 10 years, or R22 |
| Failed part | Capacitor, sensor, fan motor, drain pump | Compressor or corroded coil |
| Cost signal | Repair under about half a new install | Repair approaching a new install |
| Electricity | Unchanged | Modern inverter cuts long-run consumption |
In short: Get a diagnostic first (RM 88) so the decision rests on a measured fault instead of a guess — the fee is trivial next to a wrong replacement.
