How to Diagnose Your Aircond Problem

Most aircond problems fall into a few predictable categories. Use this guide to identify what is wrong before calling a technician.

Problem: Aircond Not Cold

• Check if set temperature is lower than room temperature
• Is the air filter blocked? Remove, rinse, refit
• Is the outdoor fan running?
• Is there ice on the indoor coil?

Professional fix: Low gas (RM 120+), dirty coil (RM 120+), faulty capacitor (RM 180)

Problem: Aircond Leaking Water

• Check if the indoor unit is mounted level
• Look at the drain pipe outlet — is it blocked?

Professional fix: Drain pipe clearing (RM 120), chemical wash (RM 120)

Problem: Aircond Making Noise

• Rattling from indoor: loose front panel or debris in blower wheel
• Grinding/metal-on-metal: fan motor bearing failing
• Hissing: possible refrigerant leak — switch off immediately

What You Can Fix Yourself

• Clean the air filter monthly
• Clear debris from around the outdoor unit
• Replace remote control batteries

When to Call a Technician Immediately

Do not attempt further DIY and call a technician immediately if: the MCB trips repeatedly when the aircond is switched on (electrical fault risk); you can smell burning or see smoke from the indoor or outdoor unit; water is dripping onto electrical outlets or wiring below the indoor unit; or the outdoor unit is making a loud grinding or knocking sound indicating compressor mechanical failure. These are not situations where waiting is safe.

MCB Tripping — Do Not Ignore

If your aircond trips the circuit breaker (MCB) when switched on, this is an electrical fault that must be investigated by a qualified technician. Do not repeatedly reset and retry — each restart attempt while a fault exists risks further damage to the PCB board, wiring, or compressor. The most common causes of MCB tripping are: a shorted compressor winding drawing excess current, a failed capacitor, earth leakage from water ingress into the outdoor unit, or a wiring fault.
