Is Toshiba a reliable aircond brand in Malaysia?
Toshiba has a strong reputation for compressor reliability in Malaysia — many Toshiba units installed 15+ years ago are still running today, especially the older R22 non-inverter wall splits. The current R32 inverter line (Haori, Kazumi, Seiya) is also well-regarded. The main service consideration is that Toshiba compressors run at a higher torque than most other brands, so always use OEM-spec capacitors (Toshiba or Hitachi-brand replacement) to avoid premature compressor wear.
What is the most common Toshiba aircond problem you see?
On older Toshiba R22 units (pre-2015), the most common issue is indoor fan motor bearing wear causing rattling noise. The motor itself is repairable in most cases (bearing replacement RM 90–150) but if the motor windings have gone open, full motor replacement is RM 280–400 including labour. On newer Toshiba R32 inverter units, we see occasional PCB capacitor failures — early replacement with Rubycon-brand capacitors is the most durable fix.
How often should a Toshiba aircond be chemically washed?
Toshiba recommends chemical wash every 12 months for residential use, but in Malaysian conditions (heat, humidity, dust), every 6–9 months is more realistic for the first 3 years. After that the evaporator builds up a protective patina that actually helps, so you can extend back to yearly once the coil is well-cleansed. We tell customers: 6 months in year 1, 9 months in year 2, 12 months from year 3 onwards.
