Aircond Service Warranty Comparison — What to Look for When Hiring a Technician in Malaysia
Not all aircond service warranties are the same. Learn the difference between written workmanship warranties, verbal promises, and manufacturer warranties — and why it matters for your unit.

Understanding Aircond Service Warranties in Malaysia
When your aircond needs repair or servicing in KL and Selangor, the warranty offered by the technician or company is one of the most important factors in choosing who to hire. A warranty is your protection if something goes wrong after the service. But not all warranties are equal. Here is what you need to know.
Types of Aircond Service Warranties
| Type | What It Covers | Duration | Reliability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Written Workmanship Warranty | Covers the quality of the service/repair work — if the same issue recurs due to faulty workmanship, the technician returns free | Usually 1–3 months | High — documented proof |
| Verbal Promise | The technician says "if problem comes back, call me" — no written documentation | Varies | Low — hard to enforce if the technician is unreachable |
| Manufacturer Warranty | Covers manufacturing defects in the unit itself — not related to service work | 1–5 years (brand dependent) | High — but only applies to new units, not service work |
| Platform Guarantee | Covers disputes via app marketplace (ServisHero, etc.) — mediation process required | Varies by platform | Medium — requires filing a dispute, resolution takes days/weeks |
What a Good Workmanship Warranty Should Include
A proper workmanship warranty from a professional HVAC company should: (1) Be provided in writing — via WhatsApp message, email, or printed job card. (2) Specify exactly what is covered (the specific repair or service performed, not vaguely "all work"). (3) State the duration (1 month is standard for most residential services). (4) Clearly list what is NOT covered (pre-existing faults, damage from third parties, misuse). (5) Include the company's contact information for warranty claims. (6) Be issued by a registered business (SSM number), not an individual freelancer.
Red Flags — When There Is No Warranty
If a technician offers no warranty or vague verbal assurance, consider these risks: if the same problem recurs within days or weeks, you will pay for another service call. If the technician's work causes damage to your unit (e.g., improper gas charging damages the compressor), you have no recourse without a written warranty from a registered business. A legitimate HVAC company with a physical address and SSM registration will always offer a written workmanship warranty — it is the standard practice for professional service providers in Malaysia.
KL Renovator's Warranty
Every service from KL Renovator comes with a 1-month written workmanship warranty. If a related issue recurs within 30 days, we return and fix it at no charge. The warranty is provided via WhatsApp (written record) and applies to all services — chemical wash, overhaul, gas top-up, and repairs. It does not cover pre-existing mechanical faults or damage caused by external factors. SSM-registered: Multicore Dynamics Resources (003765188-T).

Definitions
Key terms in this guide, explained
Short, plain-language definitions of the terms used above — written by the technicians who do the work, not copied from a manufacturer brochure.
What is an aircond gas top-up?
A gas top-up restores refrigerant pressure in a system that has lost charge. The technician reads the outdoor unit sticker for the gas type, connects a manifold gauge, checks static and running pressure, then charges by PSI to the manufacturer's target. Refrigerant sits in a sealed loop, so a system that needs topping up has a leak somewhere — the charge is a symptom, not the cure. R32 is priced at RM 3.00 / PSI.
If the same unit needs gas twice in a year, pay for leak detection and repair (RM 120 / leak) instead of a third top-up.
What are the usual reasons a compressor fails?
The compressor sits in the outdoor unit and pumps refrigerant around the loop, raising its pressure so it can dump heat outside. It is the single most expensive component in the system. Most compressor failures are secondary — caused by running low on gas, a failed capacitor, a choked condenser coil or long-term voltage stress rather than by the compressor itself wearing out.
Compressor replacement is quoted from RM 800 – 2,000 — on a unit past 8 years old, compare that against a new install before approving it.
What is a workmanship warranty, and how is it different from the brand warranty?
A workmanship warranty covers the labour: if the fault comes back because of how the job was done — a joint that leaks, a drain that was not cleared, a bracket that was not levelled — the contractor returns and fixes it at no charge. The brand warranty is separate and covers manufactured parts such as the compressor or PCB, and it survives only if the unit was installed and serviced correctly.

Side-by-side comparison
Brand warranty vs installer warranty — which claim is which?
Two separate promises from two separate parties. Knowing which one applies decides who you call when something goes wrong.
| What to compare | Workmanship warranty | Manufacturer warranty |
|---|---|---|
| Given by | The contractor who did the job | The brand that made the unit |
| Covers | Leaking joints, drainage, brackets, wiring done on site | Compressor, PCB and other factory parts |
| Typical period | Weeks to months, stated on the job card | 1–5 years depending on brand and part |
| Voided by | Someone else re-opening the same work | Incorrect installation or no servicing record |
In short: Water on the wall a week after installation is a workmanship claim; a compressor that dies in year three is a brand claim. Keep the job card and the receipt together — you will need both.
